The Repsol Honda rider is the overall leader in the X-Trial World Championship, and can seal the title this weekend. Marcelli is third with a 9-point advantage over his rival for the spot.
This weekend, Madrid will host the penultimate round of the 2023 X-Trial World Championship season. Toni Bou and Gabriel Marcelli are currently first and third overall, respectively, and both will seek to put on a good show at Repsol’s home round.
Bou is the series leader with a 25-point advantage over his nearest rival, Jaime Busto. The Repsol Honda Trial Team rider has claimed four victories from the five races held so far, and this weekend he will have the first opportunity to become X-Trial World Champion for the seventeenth time.
Marcelli arrives in Madrid very motivated after a run of several consecutive podiums in the previous rounds. After an impressive performance in Andorra, the goal for the Montesa Cota 4RT rider will be to get on the rostrum again and fight for his first victory in the X-Trial World Championship.
The action will begin on Saturday at 6:30pm local time, at the Madrid Arena.
Toni Bou
“It is an important race for us. We will be at the home of Repsol and we are going to give everything to achieve the best result. There are two opportunities left to try to win the title, so we face this event like any other. We have many years of experience and we will give 100% in Madrid. We will try to have the same good feeling with the bike as in Andorra, get through the two stages and fight for victory.”
Gabriel Marcelli
“After the good performance in Andorra, I hope for the same in Madrid. The objective will be to be on the podium and fight for victory. It will be important to stay ahead of Adam to increase the lead in the standings and arrive calmly at the last race in France. It is an important event because it is Repsol's home round, so we will try to do our best and put on a great show. The idea is to continue on the same path and score as many points as possible.”
Takahisa Fujinami
“The event in Madrid is special because it is the home of Repsol and last year we had a great result there, so it will be important to do a good job. Toni has a chance to win the title, something that will not be easy, but it is the goal for the weekend in addition to victory. In Gabri's case, he will have to look for his first win in X-Trial. In Andorra, Gabri showed that he had a high level and I think that in Madrid he can give even more.”
