Gabriel Marcelli will look to get the runner-up position in the indoor discipline, behind champion Toni Bou.
This Saturday the 2024 X-Trial World Championship season comes to an end in Pamplona, Repsol Honda Team rider Gabriel Marcelli is currently third in the overall standings and will compete for the runner-up position in the indoor series, whilst teammate Toni Bou has already been crowned champion.
Marcelli has 83 points to date, and will have to beat current second-placed rider Jaime Busto by at least 9 points, taking into account that the worst result for each rider will be discarded from their total. The Repsol Honda rider will try to get the win at the Navarra Arena to keep his chances of taking second place alive.
Bou earned his 36th world title in Andorra, two rounds ago. This weekend, the Repsol Honda rider will have the objective of getting back to winning ways, after the fourth place he took at the previous round in Tallinn (Estonia). Last season, Bou won on Pamplona’s debut as an X-Trial World Championship venue.
The action will start on Saturday from 6pm at the Navarra Arena.
Toni Bou
“I really liked the Pamplona round last year. This Saturday we are going there without pressure, because we have the title wrapped up, so we will try to enjoy the weekend. In Estonia we did not reach the objective we set ourselves, but it has been a very good year and we will try to end it in the best way. My teammate will be fighting for the runner-up position with Jaime Busto, so it will be a great duel and I will try to compete for the victory, although it will not be easy.”
Gabriel Marcelli
“In Pamplona the objective will be to fight for the runner-up position. We will have to be smart from the first round onwards, because we have to win each one of them, as well as the race. In the last few events the victory has got away from us by very little, but I feel good on the bike and we will focus on doing our best. Being in the fight for second place in the overall standings puts more pressure on us, but I will try to focus on riding my own race and we will give it our all.”
Takahisa Fujinami
“This weekend Gabri is fighting for the runner-up spot with Jaime Busto, so it will be important to be focused and put any pressure to one side. We work race by race and we want to end the year with a victory. This season Gabri has shown a great level and the team have done a great job. Toni comes into this one without pressure because he already won the title in Andorra, but as always his goal will be to get to the top of the podium and end the season in the best possible way.”
