The Repsol Honda rider will have his first opportunity of the season to win the series in Rhode Island. Gabriel Marcelli arrives at the penultimate round in top form.
The 2025 TrialGP World Championship moves on to Exeter, Rhode Island, this weekend, for the sixth and penultimate round of the season. The series returns to American soil after an eight-year absence, with its last visit having come in 2017. Repsol Honda HRC have the possibility of winning another honour through Toni Bou, who will enjoy a first opportunity to claim his 38th world title -his nineteenth in the outdoor discipline.
Bou’s last appearance was a solid performance in San Marino, where he achieved two overall victories and only dropped one race. To secure the title in Exeter, the Montesa Cota 4RT rider would need to win every race this weekend, plus one of the two ‘Power Sections’ -or at least prevent his main rival, Jaime Busto, from winning those bonus sections- to gain a lead of more than 82 points in the overall standings. He has been able to dominate throughout the season, and will try to cap it with his latest title at the earliest opportunity.
Marcelli arrives in America in excellent form. He achieved his first victory in a World Championship round in San Marino, along with a second place in the combined standings for the event. He also recently won the most recent round of the Spanish Championship in Andorra, where he also took the provisional lead in the competition. This will be his first experience as a Repsol Honda official rider in the USA, and he will look to continue the upward trend in results that currently keeps him in third place in the overall standings.
The Repsol Honda HRC team are in great shape ahead of their trip Stateside, and could return to Europe with the title already in their hands.
Toni Bou
"I'm very happy to be back in the United States. We're having a good season, so the goal will be to continue in the same way at the penultimate round of the year. Looking ahead to the championship, it's true that we have the first chance to clich the title, but there are still many points at stake, many things can happen, and we'll compete to achieve the best possible result, just like on any other weekend. The main goal is to get the title in England, because we know that winning it in the United States is difficult. I'm not under any more pressure than at other events, so we'll go there and give it our all, look to get the best results, and enjoy the weekend."
Gabriel Marcelli
"I'm really looking forward to this race. I have good memories from the United States, having competed there in the Trial2 class and taken two victories, so I hope to achieve good results this year. I'm in good shape, both physically and mentally, after winning in the Spanish Championship in Andorra and finishing second in San Marino, with my first race win. I'm also very motivated and confident. I think that, after finally winning one of the races in San Marino, I can fight for more and give my 100%. This weekend we'll be looking to be at our best."
Takahisa Fujinami
“We're arriving in the United States in a very good position for the team. Toni has his first chance to secure the title, and we know he'll give his all, as always. Gabri is also arriving in great form and is full of confidence after his results in both the World Championships and the Spanish Championship. This is a special event because the series is returning to the USA, so we want to enjoy it, stay focused, and continue achieving great results.”
