The Pietramurata Off Road Park today witnessed the final qualifying round of the 2017 TrialGP world championship season which concludes tomorrow. Repsol Honda Team rider Toni Bou once again took pole position.
The world champion, the third rider to start qualifying, clocked 25.43 seconds on the stopwatch to become the day’s reference point. In spite of the handicap of having started early, the second best qualifying time proved to be 2.4 seconds slower than Toni Bou. The first to get a shot at the qualifying section was Jaime Busto, taking 28.24 to give the Basque rider the fourth quickest time. Takahisa Fujinami, likewise, performed well to finish in sixth place.
Tomorrow, Sunday, sees the main event of this Italian TrialGP and the final date in the 2017 FIM TrialGP World Championship calendar. Toni Bou, of course, had already sealed the overall title last weekend. Jaime Busto, lying in third overall is poised to make his best ever world championship finish. Takahisa Fujinami, meanwhile, sets out intent on improving on his current fifth spot. The starting position could work in the Repsol Honda Team rider’s favour.
At 12:45 the final rider will take the start in a trial expected to finish at 14:20. The participating riders will have to tackle 15 sections over two laps, on a three-kilometre course in Pietramurata’s Off Road Park bike complex. This morning was raining, but for tomorrow, forecast is good.
Toni Bou
Today, the objective was different, because he have already won the championship, but I didn’t want to start early tomorrow, so I had to do well. I rode without pressure, but quickly. This was a good classification and I’m happy to close the year with another pole, because at the beginning of the season it was harder for me. We will see how the sections are tomorrow. The weather will be a mystery. If it rains, it will be a little more difficult, but if it continues like this, it will be easier. Until we are actually in the sections tomorrow, we won’t know what’s in store for us.
Takahisa Fujinami
I was hoping to get the pole for the final trial, but Toni was really fast. I wasn’t able to get it, but I was nevertheless looking for the best possible position. Going out behind Jeroni Fajardo and Albert Cabestany is fine; I should have a good reference. I like the sections, there are some tough steps, but I think it is possible to do well; I hope they don’t change anything and we can have a great final trial to close the season.
Jaime Busto
As always, I gave it everything today even though I was the first to start. I was a little slow on some corners and I think I could have pushed a little more this time; but in the end, the result is not bad. I start fourth behind Fajardo, Fujinami and Grattarola, so I hope to do well. I liked the sections, which are pretty good, but I don’t know if there will be much grip because of the rain yesterday and today. We’ll have to see if we wake up tomorrow and find rain.
