The Repsol Honda rider has 77 points after the first round of the season, and teammate Gabriel Marcelli is third.
The Repsol Honda riders concluded the first round of the 2025 TrialGP World Championship season, held in Benahavís, Málaga, on Sunday. Toni Bou moved up to 77 points in the overall standings, leading the series. Gabriel Marcelli, who did not have the best feeling on the second day of competition, is third in the standings with 62 points.
Bou arrived at the second day of the first round of the season ready to repeat his results from Saturday. In the first race, the Montesa Cota 4RT rider looked very comfortable both on the bike and in the sections. With just 4 penalty points, the reigning World Champion took the first victory of the day, adding 20 points to his tally.
For the second race, the Montesa Cota 4RT rider didn’t quite find his best feeling during the various sections and, despite improving in the final stages, finished second. Nevertheless, the Repsol Honda rider was second for the weekend, as he enjoyed first and second place finishes on Sunday. With 77 points, he leads the overall standings, 10 points ahead of his nearest rival.
Gabriel Marcelli also claimed a good number of points in the overall standings. In the first race he struggled to feel comfortable, making several mistakes that he could not recover from in the final sections. Finally, Marcelli finished fourth with 33 penalty points.
In the second race, his goal was to return to the podium. With greater precision and a strong determination, Marcelli entered the fight for the Top 3 and eventually took third place. Across both rounds, Marcelli completed the podium in the southern Spanish town and holds third place overall, behind Bou and Jaime Busto, who finished first and second, respectively.
The premier class riders will compete next weekend in the second round of the season, held in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.
Toni Bou
"It's been a positive weekend for us. We're leaving here with a ten-point lead in the standings, which is the most important thing. We missed out on winning the second race due to me making a few more mistakes. We already know what the new regulations are like, and we have to learn to adapt to these more risky circumstances. We can take away the consistency from the first race, which was practically perfect, and the comeback from the second, as we started quite far behind in the early sections. It'll be a tough year, but we're leaving here happy."
Gabriel Marcelli
"We took a third place finish in Malaga today. It's not a bad result, but it wasn't a good day for me. I made a lot of mistakes, in contrast to yesterday, so we have a lot to learn from. The experience of the new TrialGP is positive. It remains to be seen if we can adapt to the new format better than the other riders, but ultimately I'm satisfied with these first podium finishes, as we're not that far from the victory. Next week we have Portugal, so we'll have to fine-tune the details to do better there."
Takahisa Fujinami
"We've closed out the first weekend of the season with two more podium finishes for Toni and Gabri. We weren't able to repeat yesterday's one-two, but we did show that we're consistent and that we're in contention in every race. Toni had an incredible race in the morning, but some mistakes in Race 2 penalised him excessively. Gabri also made a good comeback in Race 1, but was able to make up for it in the afternoon. In short, I'm happy with the path the team are on and am looking forward to getting to Portugal, where we'll be a little better adapted to the new competition regulations."
