The Montesa Cota 4RT rider could claim a new TrialGP title this Sunday. Gabriel Marcelli is second in the standings, with 135 points.

TrialGP World Championship action returns this weekend in Cahors, France, after the summer break. The Repsol Honda Team riders are looking forward to the penultimate round of the season after a month off. Toni Bou will have his first chance to claim the title, and teammate Gabriel Marcelli will be looking to keep the fight going at the top.

This season, Bou has a total of eight victories and a second place in the outdoor discipline. The Repsol Honda Team rider could claim his eighteenth TrialGP title this weekend. To do so, he will have to finish Sunday’s round ahead of his teammate and second-placed rider, Marcelli. This would mathematically give him the title, with only 40 points remaining after this event. If Marcelli were to take victory in Cahors, the title chase would go to the last round in Ripoll (Spain).

Marcelli is second in the overall standings, 9 points ahead of third-placed rival Jaime Busto. He will try to increase that gap to secure the spot in the championship ahead of the last round of the year in Ripoll. The last time the Galician competed in the French town he was fourth, and his objective will be to fight for victory.

The race takes place on Sunday from 9am. Before that, on Saturday, there will be administrative and technical checks, followed by training and a visit to the zones.

Toni Bou

Championship: 1st

“After the break we are facing the race with great enthusiasm, and it will also be the first opportunity to win the title. We have had a good summer, we have been able to recover and now we are preparing to return at the highest level. Cahors is a race that I like a lot, as it has many indoor-style zones with a lot of spectators, so I would love to get a good result. We always have that bit of pressure when we can win the title, but we will focus on having a good race.”

Gabriel Marcelli

Championship: 2nd

“I arrive in Cahors recharged after the summer break. We have had a few days of training and I feel fresh and eager. It is an important and decisive weekend, despite the fact that we have two races left, because it will define how we have to face the last two events of the season and there is a lot at stake. The goal will be to defend second place, so it is important to stay ahead of Jaime and do a good job to have an advantage, and to be able to go to Ripoll with an easier task.”

Takahisa Fujinami

Team Manager

“This weekend is very important for the team, because Toni will have his first opportunity to win the title. It is a high pressure day, but we have the same mentality and we want to continue in the same way, looking for the best result. For Gabri it will also be an important weekend, and the goal will be to keep second place in the standings and increase the lead over Jaime. We will try to get the best result and put in a great performance. We are rested from the summer break and looking forward to getting back to work in Cahors.”
