The Repsol Honda Team duo, Toni Bou and Gabriel Marcelli are set to compete in the final event of the 2022 X-Trial World Championship this Saturday.

The Pavelló d’Andorra la Vella will host the final date of the 2022 X-Trial World Championship this Saturday, 8 October. And it will do so by welcoming new champion Toni Bou, after it was announced in early September that the calendar had been reduced to five events: the four already held plus the final event in Andorra. Having triumphed in all four previous events, Toni Bou mathematically sealed the title for a 16th world indoor crown.

With the title already bagged by Bou, and consequently under very little pressure, the Repsol Honda Trial Team champion will be looking to add yet another win to the 73 already accumulated in X-Trial. Meanwhile, Gabriel Marcelli will be hoping to certify his fifth current place with a solid result. This will involve avoiding any errors throughout the various phases of the trial.

Both of Bou’s two previous X-Trial World Championship participations in Andorra have ended with triumphs (2019 and 2021). Gabriel Marcelli, a wildcard entry in 2021, finished seventh.

The final trial of the season is scheduled to get underway at 18:00 with the presentation of the riders. This will be followed by the first round, with the top six making the cut for the next round, due to start at 19:30. This phase will adjudicate the three top finishers to compete in the final round (20:20). After the prize-giving ceremony, the season’s gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded.

STANDINGS: CHAMPION

I’m really looking forward to this final trial. It’s true that we would have liked to have won the title at home in Andorra, but the situation is what it is and we are going to try to take advantage of the fact that we are champions. I will give 100% as always and, of course, try to celebrate the championship with a win. Whatever happens, it will be a party for us, as we have had a great season. It’s the final trial of the World Championship and we’ll be looking forward to celebrating the two titles, both the indoor and outdoor, with my people.

Gabriel Marcelli

STANDINGS: 5th

We are going into the final event of the indoor season highly motivated after the break in the championship. We have been able to make a lot of progress with the set-up of the bike throughout the season and I think we are at a high enough level to get a great result. I would like to get onto the podium and finish the world championship season on a high note.
