The forthcoming weekend sees the last round of the TrialGP World Championship to be held in Italy. Current leader Toni Bou will be in attendance, firmly intent on sealing yet another world championship title.

The 2020 TrialGP World Championship wraps up at this weekend’s event held at the Lazzate Trial Park. Repsol Honda Team will line up their duo of riders, Toni Bou and Takahisa Fujinami, with Bou looking to consolidate his place at the head of the championship table, while Fujigas will be hoping to improve on his position in the overall standings.

Toni Bou currently holds the world championship top-spot with a 10-point advantage over the nearest second-placed rival; however, 40 points still remain at stake. The Repsol Honda Team rider hopes to close the campaign with a new title.

Team-mate Takahisa Fujinami, who narrowly missed out on a podium place in the most recent outing, will seek to continue the positive trend of recent results in an attempt to better the sixth place that he currently occupies.

Lazzate, some 35 kilometres from the centre of Milan, has previously held a round of the European Championship in 2017, although none of the top ten riders took part in the event. This weekend’s trials will take place on Saturday and Sunday in the La Battú trial area, on a five-kilometre course, including ten sections to be tackled over three laps. The trials are scheduled to conclude at 15:30.

This year has been a very strange one due to COVID-19 and, despite keeping in shape and training hard, in the first world championship trial I had problems with an old injury which didn’t allow me to perform at my best. Having the first three trials all in a row I wasn’t able to fully recover, so now I hope we have been able to sort out some of these physical issues and will be able to tackle the Italian trial in better shape.

Takahisa Fujinami

Standings: 6th Points: 57

This year I did not expect the previous results, although in Andorra I started to feel much better and I almost finished on the podium on the final day. The feelings are getting better and I hope to get a better result in the two final trials. The championship is very tight and I will fight to finish as high as possible. Fujigas never throws in the towel!
