Repsol Honda Team rider Toni Bou claimed a fifth season ‘pole position’ today in the qualifying round held in the Ciudad Deportiva, La Nucía in the Alicante province. Takahisa Fujinami registered the eighth best time.

Toni Bou flew through the qualifying section in La Nucía today. On the first lap of the section, Toni chalked up the best time of 37 seconds, a time that he was subsequently able to trim down to 31:85 seconds on Q2, four seconds less than the second-placed rider.

Repsol Honda Team colleague, Japanese rider Takahisa Fujinami, committed two dabs on the first attempt through the section, forcing the rider into a prudent Q2 to avoid any potential setbacks. Clocking up 42:32 seconds meant eighth best time on the day.

Tomorrow (Sunday) sees the seventh and final trial of the season with fifteen sections to be tackled over two laps. Toni Bou heads off from pole position in an attempt to triumph in Nucía and round off the season with a full-house of wins in the 2019 campaign. Meanwhile, ‘Fujigas’ goes in search of a podium finish in a bid to climb the overall rankings. The trial, in its maiden outing in the Spanish location, gets underway at 09:00 CET with the prize-giving podium scheduled for 15:45 hrs.

QUALY: 1st TIME: 31.85

Jaime Busto’s second pass through the section at 35” was very good, so we had to give it everything in Q2. I knew that on the first lap I had got caught up in a couple of places so I knew that I could reduce time. I started out knowing that going below to 35” was feasible but I couldn’t mess up. I changed the route in and everything went very well, I really did not expect to go as low as 31 seconds. Tomorrow I think it will be an easy trial, so if we make any mistakes it will be difficult to make up later.

QUALY: 8th TIME: 42.32

Today's qualifying section was quite easy, so if you weren’t careful, it could have been easy to make mistakes. I scored two marks myself on the first lap so on the second I wanted to play it safe, but still battle on. In the end I was eighth. It's good, because four riders will start ahead of me. Tomorrow I will try to give my all to get on the podium.
